What is GEBIR?
Global Electronic Barcode Information Registry – is a unique, cloud-based service that gives access to contact information and/or product information for companies that are using registered barcodes. The barcodes used by these companies are legally purchased and independently registered. Product information is uploaded by the company directly, so it can be trusted to be accurate. By simply typing a product barcode number into GEBIR, anyone can find the owner’s contact information and/or product information for that barcode number.
How is barcode information captured?
The information that is returned against a barcode number is information that is provided to us by our customers. This generally includes company and/or product name and contact details, such as phone number, email address and/or physical address.
Why is my barcode information not showing up?
You may not have yet registered your barcode. Your barcode will still work in a retail environment without registering it, but if you want your product (or company) information to show up when searched, you will need to register your barcode. Visit International Barcodes Database for more information on registration.
How can I register my barcode?
Registering your barcode is easy. This is an optional registration service for barcode numbers you already legally own – either purchased from International Barcodes Group or another barcode reseller, or under license from GS1. If you purchase this item, you will NOT receive a barcode number – but instead, you will need to supply your existing barcode number, and what your product details are. If you purchase “Barcode Registration” and provide proof that you are the owner of your barcode number, you will recive instructions on how to register it on the International Barcodes Database. Information submitted to that Database gets sent to some other similar databases as well. Barcode registration is not compulsory (your barcodes will work without it). However, there are many benefits to getting your barcodes & products registered. Once your barcode numbers and product details are registered on the major barcode/product databases on the internet, they will join the millions of products currently registered in these databases. This means that if these databases are searched for your barcode, your product details appear, and once the search engines have done their indexing, an internet search (or a smartphone app scan – depending on the app used) of your barcode will find your product.
